"...they never really learned to appreciate the little things in life..."

See what Ed is up to now!

Ed Asbury grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth. He learned to appreciate the finer things in life at a very young age. While other kids were out on the soccer field, Asbury was spending time with his family on the Mediterranean or skiing in the Alps.

"My parents never taught me the value of a dollar. Everything was about how much you could accumulate. Their parents and grandparents always had plenty of money, so they never really learned to appreciate the little things in life, like a friendly smile or a beautiful sunny day."

One day, Asbury had enough of blatant materialism. "I finally realized that there was more to life than fancy cars and huge houses." So he sold it all, gave most of his money to charity and decided to try life on a dairy farm.

"I always wanted to work with cows." Asbury certainly gets to do this. The cows have to be milked twice a day. "You won't find any fancy milking machines here," says Asbury. "I do it all by hand. Sure, it takes awhile and it's hard work, but I really enjoy it."

Call them crazy, but a group of local residents decided to start a polar bear club. To be initiated, members must jump into near-freezing water, clad only in a bathing suit, and remain in the water for at least 5 minutes. Bootsie McCall, an inaugural member, says "It's quite invigorating. It absolutely takes your breath away... you simply MUST try it at least once in your life!"

Residents are using the club as a way to raise funds for the local animal shelter. "Everyone who takes the plunge solicits pledges for the shelter", says Bootsie. "Folks might think we're fools, but at least we're doing something silly for a good cause!"
